Cute. That's how I would describe this series. Cute. But not interesting. There's no conflict. No draw to keep reading. The characters are flat and you know everything will turn out hunky dory. A meh read at best. ...more

Wow, that was another fast read.

As much as I wanted to get back to the Wayfarer - this book just pulled me in. Very interesting character back stories and interesting perspectives to consider.

"Personal Chromatophore Management" is my new favourite phrase.

This was so much better than the first book and I'm glad that I continued. I found the first book to not have a real direction and to be much a compilation of stories with many different characters, with about a story per main member of the ship. It was way too many characters with so many was of addressing them that it got too much. Along with that there was no direction in plot, no over arc.
This one definitely had a overarc and a storyline of the overlapping two characters, Sidra and Pepper.

Not as interesting as the first, I kept hoping the Wayfarer’s crew would show up in the story. The parallel story lines were interesting, but I never caught the explanation as to the connection. Names changed to confuse the reader, I guess.
