Assassin's Apprentice is the story of Fitz, who arrives at Buckkeep barely more than a child. He is branded early on as the bastard of Prince Chivalry Farseer, eldest & deceased son of King Shrewd Farseer. And so begins the slow & steady descent of our main character into a life fraught with hardship after hardship.

I completely adored this book! The world building is subtle but effectively created but where Hobb truly shines is the moment-to-moment dialogue between the various characters. All of the conversations felt so genuinely real that I truly felt like I knew each and every character on a deep personal level. Another thing I loved was the pacing. The narrative never once felt rushed or drawn out. I look forward to continuing on with the series!

I think this is due to Robin Hobb's deliberate, precise writing style, and because while using familiar genre tropes, she manag
