Assassin's Apprentice is the story of Fitz, who arrives at Buckkeep barely more than a child. He is branded early on as the bastard of Prince Chivalry Farseer, eldest & deceased son of King Shrewd Farseer. And so begins the slow & steady descent of our main character into a life fraught with hardship after hardship.

I completely adored this book! The world building is subtle but effectively created but where Hobb truly shines is the moment-to-moment dialogue between the various characters. All of the conversations felt so genuinely real that I truly felt like I knew each and every character on a deep personal level. Another thing I loved was the pacing. The narrative never once felt rushed or drawn out. I look forward to continuing on with the series!

I have read this book (and series) many times, but this is the first time I listened to the audiobook.
The narrator's voices were just okay, and the Fool's voice especially was nowhere near my imagining, but he did a great job with the story--and since the book is largely Fitz's narration in his head, it worked out fine.
For the story... I have yet to meet an author whose characters tug on my heartstrings as Hobb's do. Other authors (especially in the Grimdark persuasion) might do more horrible th ...more

Yeah bored......putting a pause on this I don't want to dnf this due that this book and book 2 were Christmas books but I'm bored. I'll put on my try again list....
