So far this is my favorite book that I've read this year! I laughed and wept through out the story. A lovely, heartwarming novel that is set on Guernsey Island during WWII.
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I was completely unaware that this British Island was occupied by the Nazi's during WWII. So not only was this a wonderful emotional read, I also learned a history lesson. The story is full of captivating characters who show us how strong the human spirit can be during heartbreaking times. ...more

The letters are fascinating and each writer has their own voice. What a lovely wonderful group of people to meet - and now i wish to travel and see the lovely island for myself. This book - touched me - with its simple clear storytelling of human love and courage. It does not come wrapped in fancy sentences and complex deeds and hidde

A good novel to come back to after years of not reading for fun. I love a good historical fiction read, as well as a good “Jane Austen” type love story. I’ll admit it did take until part 2 of the book for me to enjoy it more - once a little deeper history started to emerge - and the format of the book - all being letters written to and from different people - made it difficult to keep up with, especially if I skipped a day or so of reading. But I loved the main character right away, and the auth

I loved the first part of this book. I fell in love with all the characters on in Guernsey and wanted to know about their experiences during the occupation, about their thoughts on the books they read for the society, and about how they were settling into the new normal after the war and then towards the end of the book most of the characters float away and the plot turns to the lovestory And it is fine. But I'd have rather spent more time with the other islanders.
