What Members Thought
I am rather stingy with my stars, but this novel was worth every single one. It was amazingly well written - the depth and description that was in the letters is what truly made the story. The entire novel is written as letters and telegrams between the characters, and each letter is skillfully written in the voice of each character. This was a sweet book. Like enjoying a chocolate ice cream cone. It is rare a book makes me laugh out loud. This one did often. And then other times brought tears to my eyes. It gives insight into the aftermath of Europe rebuilding after the war. And it gives insight into the occupation. I like that both Germans and allies have their villains and heroes. I found it painted a more balanced picture of human nature than many books of this genre.
