What Members Thought

So far this is my favorite book that I've read this year! I laughed and wept through out the story. A lovely, heartwarming novel that is set on Guernsey Island during WWII.
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I was completely unaware that this British Island was occupied by the Nazi's during WWII. So not only was this a wonderful emotional read, I also learned a history lesson. The story is full of captivating characters who show us how strong the human spirit can be during heartbreaking times. ...more

I loved the first part of this book. I fell in love with all the characters on in Guernsey and wanted to know about their experiences during the occupation, about their thoughts on the books they read for the society, and about how they were settling into the new normal after the war and then towards the end of the book most of the characters float away and the plot turns to the lovestory And it is fine. But I'd have rather spent more time with the other islanders.
