I read this as a teenager and found it chilling. I'd love to re-read it one of these days.
10/16/2011-- OK, I just re-read it as part of my Connect with the Classics book discussion group. Guess what? I didn't enjoy it like I did when I read it as a teenager. For one thing, I didn't like his writing style. I had to re-read sentences to figure out what he was trying to say, and in some sentences I felt sure he left out a preposition. Second, because I'd seen the movie "The Innocents," which left s ...more

This book gave me serious nightmares, but the ending left me with lots of questions. I was also frustrated at the lack of proper communication the characters had with each other! Still, it is always fun to read a creepy book near Halloween!
Ehh...not so much on this one.
