Another Battle of the Books choice for 5th-6th grades. This was a sweet story, but I knew pretty much everything that would happen, just by reading the back cover.

Still cleaning up some of the books I should have read years ago...

This would have been a childhood favorite if I'd read it as a child. The friendship aspects of the story and the beginnings of the coming of age of Jess make this a great story.

I had no idea of how this story would turn out and I'll admit that it took me by surprise but I can see why it's so popular. Given the age of the target audience I felt that the critical scenes were deftly handled and that reading this book would help any ...more
