This edition of the masterwork, with translation, notes and introduction by Lydia Davis, produces a literary package with a valuation higher than the sum of its parts. By that I mean that once consuming the whole of this particular edition, I can’t in good faith assign a rating of less than five stars even if at various intervals my reactions were somewhat flat or even petulant.

Madame Bovary è uno dei quei romanzi che ti obbligano a leggere a scuola, quando del matrimonio, dell'amore o della donna, non ne sai niente.
Io rileggendolo oggi ho piacevolmente scoperto e riconosciuto molti temi interessanti.
Trovo che la figura di Emma sia l'emblema della ribellione agli obblighi della donna di un tempo. Ogni tanto la si odia, altri momenti si pensa che stia solo inseguendo il suo cuore e la si ammira.
