What Members Thought

I must say it was excellent. Quite the page turner. I enjoyed Emma's character even when I know I probably shouldn't. But I could relate to her at times. Charles was a fool, who I didn't pity or feel sorry for. At first yes I did, and first I liked his character but, I guess you'll just have to read it for yourselves to understand why I feel the way I do towards him.

I never expected to like this, but it was a reading group selection at my public library, so I decided to try it. Flaubert is such a master of describing characters and feminine psychology that I was sucked right into the story and didn't want to put it down. I love it when a book I don't expect to like turns out excellent! When it was written back in the 1840s, it was considered quite racy; not so today.
