This is a beautiful book. I love how James McBride portrays serious, gritty, sometimes heartbreaking situations and manages to infuse them with love, humor, hope and even sweetness. My only quibble is that I thought he could have made all the same points and with more impact with fewer characters. I got distracted and confused with some of the lesser ones.
