What Members Thought
This might not have been a 5 star book if I were just reading it on my own (a little too vaguely magical or something), but I used it for a book club with my son's 4th grade reading group at school and it was perfect. She seamlessly introduces complex vocabulary and writing techniques and it legitimately made the kids think about emotional risk and choice and community. It was just the right length and complexity to be accessible but challenging. I was impressed.

I went into this book expecting to hate it. Several people have told me to skip it because it's not worth reading, and one person warned me that it was covertly religious.
And I was actually enjoying it up until the ending. Then I was like, oh, okay. There it is.
That was a total non-ending to me.
Also, screw Christmas.
I can't even find it in me to write a review worth reading. ...more

Jonas is a definitely a character that is eager for change, challenge, a completely new way of seeing the world once he gets a little taste of the things that once were and wants to find out what is out there in the world that he never new about before he accepted his Honor. It is indeed a book worth reading. It show how our uniqueness is beautiful and if we were all the same... everything and everyone pretty boring. The take the author took on this is definitely interesting.
