I have left this a while since finishing while trying to organise my thoughts about this book. Amidst the mass of 4 and 5 star ratings which lead me to read this, (and glad I did) I'm plunking down 3 stars. The book feels like an unfinished catharsis, written -and well written- by a survivor of the Vietnam war. My nephew was reading this book for a High School class and I liked the title so I picked it up. When I was his age (or maybe a little older), I read quite a few books focused on WWII and the Korean War. The stories I read were mostly about the good guys against the bad guys. This book did not have good or bad guys, just a lot of guys trying to make it through a horrible conflict any which way they can. It was kind of hard for me to read at times. Almost despite myself, I was engrossed in this book. Some parts gave me chills.
