What Members Thought
First book in the Percy Jackson series. While the book is clearly targeted for the male teen its a well put together read for folks of all ages. It seems a little less juvenile than the Harry Potter books and with a more masculine slant. Couldn't tell if it was the writing or the fact that my copy was used, but there were definite whiffs of Clearasil and Cruex.

I would have enjoyed this book if it had been around when I was a kid-it reminds me somewhat of the Narnia series, only with classical Gods. I found it difficult to get past the chatty kid-to-kid writing style at first, but in the second half of the book got over myself and enjoyed the humour.
This was a fun read for all of us. All the mythology was educational for the kids (Alright, and a little for me too). The blending of mythology into the story in a unique way was my favorite part. The story didn't have a strong emotional pull, but the boys didn't seem to care.

Cute book. I like the idea of bringing mythology into the modern culture in a way that makes it live for people. The story was exciting and fun, but seemed like it leaned a little too heavily on the Harry Potter precedent.
Can't wait to read the rest of the series! Such a great book... The Greek gods are alive and well in the present. Action and adventure...I know it's a series for kids, but this is a great story.

Complete Harry Potter rip-off. I know Rowling's work isn't completely original, but this was so blatantly similar I could hardly make it through.
