I was well over half way with this book before I Googled to see if it was a real band. That’s how convincing I found it. Yes, the format is one that I don’t normally like (interview style, with comments from the band, the family, the manager and others all interspersed) but it works. That’s what eventually gives it away that this isn’t a real band- the comments are a little too perfectly enmeshed.

I listened to the audiobook and think that that is the way to get the full experience of this book.
I listened to the audiobook. The emotion portrayed by the multiple voice actors was so moving and real. I thought I was listening to a true story by the actual people in the book. This might be my favorite audiobook ever (also loved Lincoln in the Bardo and Echo - two completely different types of books, but excellent voice acting). I loved the story of a rock n roll band in the 70s, the characters, and the raw emotion. The author is a wonderful storyteller.
