What I loved best were the atmospheric and evocative descriptions of the different seasons and how the animals experience them.
The chapters I liked least were "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", which I have heard some editions leave out, and "Wayfarers All". It still seems to me (as it did over 40 years ago, when I first read it) that the language of the book in general is very difficult for young children, even when the story is read to them.

We just finished this as a family, and I can't believe I've missed it all these years. What a wonderful read aloud! It's musical - we reread many sentences over again and played with the words. I know I'm a couple centuries late to the fanclub, but I'm adding this to the top of my favorite books to recommend for family read alouds. We want to start from the beginning and read it all over again!
