What Members Thought

The Call of the Wild is a book most people have heard a lot about. For me, I may have either heard too much about it or read it at some point when I was younger. I think that may have taken away some of the surprise and trauma that the story brings forth. However, reading it as an adult there are things people can surely relate to even though it is told as a description of a dog’s life. It is a heart-warming tale of a dog and his search for meaning, often times brutal and heartbreaking.

Probably Jack London's (1876-1916) most famous book, The Call of the Wild (1903), tells the story of Buck, a dog of indeterminate breed, from his own perspective, his days in the central California Valley in which he grew up, to his days of legend in Alaska and the Yukon Territory where, once tame, he now heeds The Call of the Wild.
