I really enjoyed the first half of this book. It's the story of two video game developers, how they got into it, and their relationship with each other and their games. Definitely not plot-heavy. It relied heavily on characters not communicating well with other characters, which I really hate. For example, he doesn't do a thing because he's in pain, but she thinks he doesn't do the thing because he's being a jerk, so she calls him a jerk, and he never mentions that he's in pain and just lets her

I e been avoiding this book for awhile because, while on all the bestseller and best books lists, I didn’t want to read a book about gaming. This book is not about gaming. It’s a classically Gen X book. The characters suffer and have trauma and they get up and get to work.
It’s about work and creativity and love and friendship and growing up and getting old. I really have no complaints about plot, pacing, construction, language none of it. It’s in fact full of some of the lost beautiful metaphor ...more
