This was the most thought-provoking book I've read in quite a while. I'm not particularly drawn to sci-fi books, so I was glad that the mechanics of Dana's time travel didn't get much time in this book. I would never had picked this book up if not for it being a book group read; which is why we attend book groups right? And not until I looked at it on Goodreads before I started reading did I figure out it was a sci-fi book. That put me off a little because that's not a genre I particularly enjoy. This book completely sucked me in from the first page. The plot seems far-fetched: In 1976, Dana randomly wakes up in 1815 on her ancestor’s plantation. She eventually returns to her home but gets called back several more times. I loved that it was less a time travel story and more a narrative of life on a plantation. There are some difficult scenes of slave treatment, but it is thought-provoking, powerful, and creative. I will be thinking about this one for a long time.
