What Members Thought
I wanted to love it more just before it’s Austen I suppose . I didn’t hate it, but it just felt a little flat. I appreciated that the book took it’s time getting to different events that took place, but then it was there, done, move on. The ending felt the same. It was what I as the reader was waiting for but it almost felt a let down.
Jane Austen wrote this early in her career, but it wasn't published until after her death and never underwent a final author's revision. It feels a little bit like a warm-up book, with a somewhat erratic tone and a plot that is weaker than some of her others, but it still has gems like this:
"She had three sons before Catherine was born; and instead of dying in bringing the latter into the world, as any body might expect, she still lived on...A family of ten children will always be called a fine ...more
