I am boosting the rating up to 4 stars because I keep thinking about this book and the more I do, the more I like it. It requires a patient reader as the style is very slow and deliberate at the beginning (it's written as a series of journal entries). It has a very unusual tone—haunting, really—which will turn off some readers, but I thought it worked.

Unique, fascinating little fantasy, so well described you can see it in your mind
Took me a while to read. It’s fascinating, but exhausting. I think it’s because it goes from lighthearted and secure to surreal. I think the whole book is intended to make us revisit our idea of reality. But it’s hard to describe. I’ve never read anything like it.
