What Members Thought
I think that this one ties with Pride and Prejudice for the best book ever! I liked Anne a bit more than Elizabeth Bennet, but she is older and has her “bleep” together. The words, though, I could get lost in the words and phrases of Jane Austen, and just the pauses in a sentence leave so much to the imagination! Mr. Darcy or Captain Frederick Wentworth- tough choices!
I read this because I felt like a one-trick Jane Austen pony. Oh sure I can recite Pride and Prejudice with everyone else, but is that all there is to JA? The answer is no. I like this book a lot. It made me appreciate Ms Austen as a writer and not just as the creator of dreamy Mr Darcy. Course, that said, I didn't think the male romantic character was nearly as interesting or as well developed as P and P. But I really liked the heroine for being smart, calm and quiet.
