A beautiful brutal book! I loved the dark atmospheric mood the author created to pull the reader into a different time and place, down the gritty streets and into seedy bars. The book felt oppressive truly reflecting the inner lives of the characters. It was stifling (in the very best of ways). The whole book captures that feeling of being cramped in Giovanni’s tiny, dirty room amid all the transitional chaos of his efforts to change it.
