This was a wonderful read. I passed it on to my daughter who shared it with her book club. Everyone enjoyed it. I loved the fact that we got to see what an amazingly interesting life Jakob had led. So many times elderly people who live in assisted living or nursing home facilities aren't given the dignity of having a past. I could tell that the author had done extensive research on the life of the traveling circuses of that era. I actually wished she had added even more detail for a longer book.

This was an incredible book that had me hooked! A quick read about the many and potentially disastrous events that take place int eh life of a circus worker in the 1930s. A captivating romance and a great meaning about animals and life overall.

I loved this book. While the story is a bit predictable, I loved it still. For two days I couldn't put this book down and now that I'm finished, I feel disappointed that it's over.
I will say the nursing home scenes were sad for me b/c it reminds me so much of how my grandfather must feel often. The loneliness that Jacob feels as an old man is overwhelming at times. I was so happy with the ending of the story. ...more

I really liked this book. Of course it made me cry but it was really well written and I do so love a happy ending.
