Surpised me! It re-taught me the lesson NOT to judge a book by it's cover or jacket write up! Circus' are not my thing & I was really happy to have read this! It was dark in spots, witty and funny in others, & the characters came to life on the pages!

Great recreation of an era that I'm glad I missed. They may call them "the Greatest Generation" but I think another name for them was "the Survivors." This book shows yet again just how hard life was in the Depression. So much so that even reading of it 80 years later is depressing.

This was a really good book! It showed the grittiness of the old-school circus and definitely made me re-think my interest in running away and joining one! Hahaha!
Interesting story during the depression years about a vet working for the circus. Some sexual content.
A good read is definitely what I'd call it. And I don't even like the circus!
