Calm, quiet, unassuming, the book simply tells the life journey of Siddhartha, not the Buddha, but a contemporary of his with the same name, also seeking enlightenment. There is no preaching, no scorning towards us earthlings who cannot part with our worldly possessions, however meager it might be.

A fable more than a story, Sidharta is probably the framework and source for a lot of later 20th century works such as Coelho's Alchemist (and several other works), Tolle's Power of Now, Byrne's The Secret etc. Classic hero's journey searching for happiness and the meaning of life. Interestingly Coelho wrote the introduction to the Modern Classics edition (the cover art is incredible).
