What Members Thought
The examination of identity in race, as well as a mystery to be solved, kept my attention throughout this book. However, I found myself being frustrated with all of the characters and especially frustrated with the last line of this book for some reason. It just seemed out of place. The rest of the writing was good, but this had too much family drama and not enough of a resolution for me to love it.
Unpopular opinion here. I bought this book because of all the positive opinions. I was excited to read it, but I found it bland and shallow. I finished it because of the beautiful writing but there were too many moments when I was disappointed in the plot. I wanted more depth and exploration of some of the issues and lives of the characters but I never got it. It was also a very one note book tonally. Which I felt was monotonous.
Interesting read. Not deep, scratches the surface, but addresses enough to cause some thought.
