Update: I should note that this wasn't a "pleasure read" and there were some things I didn't like about the structure/plot of the book, but the overall quality of the writing was good and it was thought provoking, hence the high rating. Also, it was hard to put it down at times.
Very well written novel with strong female characters set in the 1950s-1980s whose characters' narratives explore race, identity, and the reasons they leave their origins (and the price they pay to do so). I di ...more
