This book loses a star for deliberate historical inaccuracy that serves no purpose.

I didn't realize this was based on a true story until the end. One detail that had really thrown me off during the book was when Lale says he will find penicillin. Penicillin existed, but it wasn't so widely known of or produced at that point (early 1943) that a layman would know about it, never mind be able to access it in an Axis camp, I believe.
