Shelves: historical-fiction

An emotionally-heavy story about a man’s survival at Auschwitz-Berkenau during WWII. It talks about the role that he played as the “tattooist”, the connections that he made with other prisoners, and the decisions that he made in order to survive - and to help as many others as he could. Though the novel is based on the life-story of a real man, it is considered historical fiction because of the dialogue, and changes that the other made to make the story more concise.

A moving read which is based on a true story. Harrowing at times but at other times the writing is full of cliches and therefore simplifies some of the events. However a memorable book. I’d recommend Primo Levi for a more detailed account.

“To save one is to save the world.”

This story gives a glimpse into the horrors of arguably the most infamous Nazi death camps and shares the pain and moving story of human resilience, love, “family”, and friendship in the most terrible of times.
