What Members Thought

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a little bit longer than I am normally used to, but, as I described to a friend the other day, the book seemed to at times have a ton of stuff going on and nothing at all at the same time if that makes any sense. But, I liked her writing style and enjoyed the tone of the book. I know some people can be offended by some of the more "shocking" things that happen in the story, but I thought the author handled certain situations very well and I have read far mo

Jan 24, 2018: Still 4 stars. I enjoyed the book like before but unlike the last time I am more interested in seeing what happens next.
I enjoyed the story but I found it to be a tad too long. I would have been perfectly happy to see the story end a little sooner then it did. Will I read the others? Not really sure, as I'm happy to see it as a stand alone, (view spoiler) ...more

The author will trick you into finishing this 850 page epic with her great character development, beautiful Scottish highland descriptions, and a sweeping love story in which the characters are married, falling more and more in love, and continuing to rescue each other from almost-certain death in the time of clan rivalries and kingdom betrayals. DO NOT READ IT. There are too many (married) sex scenes and lots of recounts of tor

I know this is a pretty constant refrain for me when a book is over 400 pages, but this book was far too long. Telling a story well and without repetition is an incredible challenge, I'm sure, but if writers can't do it, shouldn't it be up to editors to help them streamline stories? I don't blame writers at all; when writing, a lot of events and character expression seem vital to the story. Oftentimes, though, they're not. It surprises me that Diana Gabaldon's editor didn't see this when editing

Enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to. Can't wait to read the next one.

This is my favorite book. I'm not a person who rereads books and I'm about to rereads this one. Parts of it are very difficult, but it's part of their story. And it is a story that feels so real, you think these are people you know and love. Characters so alive, so real, that your heart aches with and for them. All the books are wonderful.
