Three stars because I both loved and hated this book. There were beautifully written long descriptive passages. The story within a story concept was interesting. I felt that I really "got" what the author was trying to achieve here. I just didn't appreciate it. There wasn't enough of an overriding story to connect the smaller stories. My first DNF of the year. This book is just isn't for me. The writing is very beautiful, but the rest of the book is just boring.

I promised I would give it two stars instead of just one if it had a happy ending.
