What Members Thought
A timeless classic and I really don't need to say anything. I probably read this as a child, and have seen it as a musical. I did not remember how much the characters refer to "magic" as an explanation of the restorative powers of nature. As an avid gardener myself, there is a certain amount of magic involved in nurturing plants and watching the wonders of nature unfold. I didn't read this book as a child, so read it for the first time to my daughter. There are overarching themes to like, but we occasionally found ourselves mired in the flowery prose. Sometimes the lengthy sentences and descriptions were almost like poetry, but at other times, we felt the book could have been edited a bit more. (Obviously this style is typical of early 20th century children's literature.)
