What Members Thought
I enjoyed this book (and was able to check off a "horror" box on a reading challenge with it), but I didn't find it overly scary. Today's reader is a bit jaded after having read lots of mysteries, thrillers, and Harry Potter.

This was creepy fun! I loved every character in this book-especially Theodora. They were all interesting, and I really enjoyed the group dynamic they shared. I laughed several times while reading this. I especially loved the main character-Hill House-and the ending! I didn’t see it coming at all. This would be a perfect Halloween read, but it also has a bit of summertime feel with all of the gardens, brooks, and picnics happening here. I will definitely revisit this one.
The first book I have read on the "Kindle for PC" software. Apart from which, I really enjoyed the book. Read it because I was catching up on a group read from one of my GR groups, and found it compelling. And thanks to Stephanie for the phrase "literary creepy" which describes this book perfectly.

Seems like an apt book to read in 2020. It’s spooky and slow. I may have preferred the Netflix series which I watched after finishing this book. The book makes the reader slowly experience the characters fears to the point I wasn’t sure where my building panic attack ended and theirs began. The netflix series had the unforgettable horrifying arc of The Bent Neck Lady. Truly terrifying and tragically sad at the same time.
I was surprised to realize how close the movie got (1st movie, the 1963 one), though they got some things wrong. I don't understand why they had to put in the love story. :-(
