My A-number 1 complaint about this book is the title. Crawdads don't sing, and if they did they'd make some kind of unholy crustacean nails-on-a-chalkboard screech. Gah. Makes me think of rabbits screaming. Who wants to read about that?

So I put off reading this book, because of the horrific title, but also because of concerns it might be overrated. And, it probably is, but not as much as I thought. I thought the author did a good job balancing the flashbacks so that they led up smoothly to the p ...more

Young Kya, abandoned and alone, rising herself deep in the marsh until the death of her ex-boyfriend dragged her to a murder trial.
The story is told in two time periods - Young Kya rising herself alone in the marsh starts in 1952; and police investigate a murder of Chase Andrews 1969.
