What an incredible memoir! It didn’t even read like a memoir, but like a work of fiction. This book was in turns fascinating and cringe-inducing. It is understandable that some readers have trouble believing this story, as the events described seem right out of a Dickens novel and invoked other novels that turned out to be fabrications (A Million Little Pieces comes to mind). Yet the author is careful to document conversations that are reconstructions and questions her own memory and perceptions.

A thoughtful, brutally honest memoir of her "education" in the mountains of Idaho. Loved the style of sharing different versions from her family members regarding events as well as what she recalled personally. Kudos to Westover's family, friends and professors for encouraging her to consider college, course work beyond her own imgaination.
