I think people like this book the same reason why people like The Devil Wears Prada. Story-wise and even character-wise it's really not that good. What might attract people to this book is a peek at how crazy rich Asian might live, with all the name-dropping of people, place, university, brand and even singlish slank and foods.

What this book lack in character and story development, it recompense in describing crazy rich Asian's life, from typical gossip circulating around, to crazy parent demand

It was pretty good. It’s not the right book for me though. I could care less about fashion and all that stuff. I think the author put way too many details about all that stuff in. But some people do enjoy that, so that’s understandable. It was like reading a soap opera. Some of it was funny, some if it made you want to scream. Great characters, both the good ones and the bad. Not sure if I’ll read the rest in the series yet, maybe.

The audiobook by Lynne Chen is just awful. Decent story, though the characters are fairly one-dimensional. In this case, the film is better.

Also, thank god for that family tree. There is a bombardment of family members, friends, family of friends, friends of family members.. It got a tad confusing of who was related to who at times... but I think that was probably the point considering the book mentions a couple times near the beginning that it’s a complicated

Except for about 3 frankly obscene sentences, this book is pure guilty pleasure fluff. Not sure how to recommend it but I have to admit that I enjoyed it.
