If you want to be whisked away to a part of the world and a lifestyle that most of us will never experience in real life, this is the book for you. I want to see the movie and prefer to read the book first -- always! I think I will probably understand the social hierarchy a bit better for having read this first. I tried keeping the characters and the families straight but was only partially successful. While I assume that some of what's described here is meant to be over the top, I wonder how mu ...more

2.5 rounded up. Chick lit, and reading about the over-the-top lifestyles of crazy rich people backstabbing each other constantly is not for me. I found it painfully distasteful and not remotely funny. I finished it only because it was for my bookclub. I liked Rachel and wanted a happy ending for her, but I'm not even sure she got it. The ending was quite ambiguous. Yes, I know there is a sequel, but I really have zero interest in continuing just to see if Rachel and Nick have a HEA ending by the ...more

Loved it! I am a sucker for romantic stories and this one does it for me. A huge list of characters and most of them are crazy rich Asians. :-D A lot of fun.
Oliver is my favorite character. I’m pondering how I would narrow this story down for a screen play and I’ve got the major scenes laid out in my mind. I’m excited to see what they choose to do for the film.
I may have to read the other books.

I HATE HER!!! I HATE THE SELFISH SNIVELING BITCH!
I really wished she would go to China and they would catch her and force her to stay because she wasn't really USonian but Chinese, as her mother kidnapped her, and forced to live in China for the rest of her miserable, stinking, fucking life.

Very amusing story about a Chinese American woman who visits her boyfriend's family and experiences the incredibly rich life style in Singapore. The beginning of the book is one of my favorite opening scenes.

My daughters think that some of the characters resemble my extended family. Shhh, don't tell my aunts and cousins.

With-reservations:
bullying, sexual innuendos & situations, prejudice, drugs, adultery

Fun, trashy, fast read. One of my favorite reviewers dubbed it “Crack Lit” and I suspect that term encapsulates the trilogy (I am on Book 2 at the moment and the term definitely applies to that one too). Enjoy it for what it is - a guilty pleasure and great escape!
