What Members Thought

This book is a wonderful and loving tribute to those cherished Gothic tales of ghosts and mysteries.
Written with a deft hand, the prose is beautiful as befits the genre's legacy, but never interferes with the act of storytelling. And, in this book, it's all for the story. A most excellent story.

Superbly written. Ms Setterfield writes in the language of an era. I felt snapped up in a past time.
Bookish Meg is requested to write the biography of a famous authoress Vera Winters. As the story unfolds Meg and Vera realize their lives have some similar themes.
The plot has many unfolding revelations, all leading to an unforeseen conclusion.
I loved reading this tale and it will be a few days before I’m able to completely walk out of the mist.

This was a great, well-written story..but it was too heart wrenching for me-the death, drama, and separation--I just felt so sad and creeped out after reading this..the imagery she invokes is a little too clear for me...I hope I don't have nightmares!
