I very much loved and very much hated this book. Min Jin Lee beautifully wrote a book about history, family and obligation that was gutting. Her woke spoke me me of the suffering of women. She made me both proud to be a woman and sad to endure being a woman. It was a great read but left me feeling uneasy somewhat.

A fascinating insight into Japan post-war. This spans four different generations and is a very moving book, without being sentimental. Beautiful writing and will definitely read more by this author.
