Not really a review just personal thoughts I guess. Was anyone else kind of weired out by the part where Star's dad has her recite Malcolm X philosophies over and over again? "Freedom, justice, and equality through whatever means necessary". I mean, it's a nice sentiment but the way he had her repeating it made it feel kind of sinister. ...more

I listened to this book and the narrator was terrific. The voice of the main character, Star is spot on. What wonderful character development, what a honest and compelling story. Highly recommend. It handles a difficult topic with grace.
