Amazing. Outstanding story line. This book made me look inward. It caused me to reflect on some of the prejudices that I have. On a negative note, it made me hyper aware of the daily challenges, I face as a black woman. The book did its job! Would recommend to everyone
In typical Jodi Picoult fashion she takes on a complicated issue and views it from every angle. In Nineteen Minutes, it was school shootings. In Small Great Things it is race. I have never thought of myself as a racist--I'm appalled by the very idea, but somehow this book made me look at myself in ways I've never looked before. I really liked this book....much to my surprise! I've never been a Jodi Piccoult fan because her books are just too sad, but this book was so eye-opening! I felt like I was in the mind of Ruth and how she thought and what it really means to be black. So much I didn't realize and I feel differently now about what I thought I knew.
