Although it took me an extremely long time to finish this book, I really loved it. It was fascinating how the Geisha have to live. I definitely recommend this book.
I LOVED IT!! Oh wow, this was such a fantastic book. To go on this journey with the main character and to experience everything that she experienced, it was incredible. The author did a phenomenal job with the storyline, the characters, even the imagery. You couldn't help but FEEL what was going on in the story, which is a sign of a great storyteller. I really have no frame of reference to tell if this book by a western white male author even approximates what life was like for a Japanese war-time geisha. But it did seem well researched and felt authentic to me, as an outsider. I am sure that there are some who think it is totally inadequate, but I have no doubt that my understanding of the world Golden depicts is much better than it had been previous to reading this enjoyable book.
