My brain is not making sense right now. I'm completely overwhelmed by this.

This book gave me the feeling I got when I first read Harry Potter. I intend to write a full review but Fitz is a brilliant protagonist - with no previous knowledge of court life he made for a great introduction into the world. Hobb employs time-slips well so that each scene feels vital to the overall plot.

Great first novel in a trilogy, which from the reviews I've read only gets better,

4.5!
I really enjoyed this! It makes me wonder why it isn't more famous, more known. I mean at least in my country people haven't heard of Robin Hobb that much. The writing is, of course, amazing, and even though this is mostly the story of Fitz's childhood it's so gripping and so interesting you can't put it down.

*With a sigh of content* This is the 1st time in a LONG time that it hurts to have finished a book. I'm torn - part of me wants to jump head first into the next book while another part of me wants to savour and mull this story over and over.

I actually started reading this book and then got distracted! Picked it up where I left off and finished it in two days! It was a great tale. Wonderfully written, rich with details and I felt like I was in the book watching the life of Fitz play out. I loved it! I'm now reading the second book in this trilogy, and I can't wait to see what happens next! Highly recommend, great book!

Really interesting fantasy series book one, which doesn't shy away from unpleasant twists and complex political machinations. I look forward to reading more.
