I went into this novel with what seemed like absurdly high expectations and it managed to not only meet but exceed all of those expectations. Having heard so many wonderful things about Robin Hobb’s novels, I was certain I would enjoy it, but I never expected to fall so in love with this absolutely beautiful piece of literature. Assassin’s Apprentice captivated me from page one. Literally. One day, I picked it up just to try out a few pages and there was ...more

I love epic fantasy, and this book is the epitome of all that is good in fantasy! It has everything a good book should have - diverse characters, unique magic system, action, suspenseful plot, danger, intrigue, and of course, wonderful character development.
I was enchanted with the entire story, and immediately fell in love with Fitz! His unique perspective on the world of the Six Duchies and the royal court was exciting to read about. All those secrets and dastardly plots kept me wondering who ...more

I always love diving into a new fleshed out well written fantasy world and this was no different.
The story follows a young bastard of royal lineage as he grows up and the many hardships he has to endure and is basically like a long training montage (as many first books in a long fantasy stories are).
I liked the main characters but sometimes I felt like I didn't understand why they acted the way they did (like why Fitz so quickly came to care for Chade but was always really hard towards Burrich ...more

It's been a long time since I've gotten so caught up in a fantasy world. I really loved this character-driven story of Fitz--a prince's bastard who is trained to be the royal family's assassin. All of the characters in the novel felt wholly developed. I liked that there was no real clear division between good and evil or right and wrong. The writing was very refreshing too. Overall, a highly entertaining book that presents some intriguing themes. Video review to come soon.

4.5!
I really enjoyed this! It makes me wonder why it isn't more famous, more known. I mean at least in my country people haven't heard of Robin Hobb that much. The writing is, of course, amazing, and even though this is mostly the story of Fitz's childhood it's so gripping and so interesting you can't put it down.
The problems he faces aren't problems that make the reader think ''the solution is obvious'' but problems that are truly conflicting and that make you wonder how is he gonna get out of ...more

[4.5 Stars]
I really, really enjoyed this book. It was atmospheric, well-paced and full of well-rounded, believable characters. There was also none of the "the main character is perfect and impervious to flaw and harm" trope that often pervades fantasy.
