One of the things I've heard about Robin Hobb is that her books tend to have a slow build. The big difference between this book and the first is that it's about twice as long. The slow pace of the book at first makes you wonder if it will be worth the 600+ page investment. Let me tell you right now: it is. I really wasn't sure at first. This second installment of the Farseer Trilogy had a VERY slow start. I don't know if it was the Olympics distracting me, or the book itself, but it took me abou

Although this one was a little slower getting started than the first. I ended up loving this one so much more. I am completely blown away with Hobb as a writer. I can easily see why so many others rave about her. I can't wait to pick up the final book in this series as well as all of her other books. I would HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone who enjoys adult fantasy as well as an incredible character driven story.

Five stars again.
I thought the best parts were insights we gain in to Burrich's past and the scenes with The Fool. Plus five thousand stars for Nighteyes, since I am a huge fan of wolves. Nighteyes always seemed much older to me, and had a slight edge to him compared with the dogs we met from Assassin's Apprentice .

Amazing sequel.
This book built upon my love for the characters and the world.
There was so much political intrigue and deception, which I loved.
Fitz and Burrich are my favourites.
Robin Hobb's writing was phenomenal.
Now I'm off to start the last book to see what happens next, especially with how this one ended. :) ...more

Solid 4 stars. I picked up the book again a couple of days ago and I just couldn't stop reading. I care so much about these characters and I'm so invested in the story that the emotional ride was extremely intense. I'm still shocked by the amazing ending. I was not expecting at all. I will write a proper review soon after I give myself some time to organize my feelings.

4.5 stars. It is really hard not to give 5 stars to a book that is so well written and so expertly crafted. It is an amazing book, and don't hesitate to read it if you liked the first one.
The characters are somehow even better than in Assassin's Apprentice. Oh, Fitz, I just want to hug you, all the time! Burrich and Patience are still incredible, Kettricken and Verity grow so much, and I get happier there is a spin off series about the fool with each book I read. Some things happened that I was ...more

The second installment to the Farseer Trilogy is better than the first. So much happens in this book. I love all of the characters, the world that Hobb has built is so visible in the reading. Hobb has made me care so much for Fitz and his friends that I had a hard time finishing the book because I was afraid of what was going to happen to him or them. I pushed through and was not disappointed. This is definitely a book that you need to savor. Can't wait for to read the next installment.
