The Overall, Non-Spoiler Review:
YAY! Another win for Oz fiction! (even though technically Rachael is from NZ but it was still awesome). And another win for YA sci-fi which I am finding that I love just as much as YA fantasy and I hope that all the future books I read can be as fun as this one.
This book had many wins - it was fast paced, had a wonderful flow to the story, great family dynamics (which is INCREDIBLY rare in YA fiction) and a great romance that didn't overpower t ...more

Spark follows 17 year old Evie who has just lost her mother and is trying to get through life under her Mother’s twin, Aunt Miriam’s, roof.
Whilst grieving, Evie starts to feel weird throughout her body, growing pains, pins and needles, heart palpitations, bursts of adrenaline, dizziness, all things that would disappear if she were near her best friend Kitty.

I love when you pick up a random book, having no idea of plot and reviews and end up just devouring it because it is just so good. This is what happened with Spark.
I did take me a few chapters before I started to enjoy the story line. By the 100 page mark everything about Evie and her world had been explained. It was all thrown at me at once with many technical words and acronyms. It was such an overload of information that I needed to remember. That ...more

I liked this book. It was different to what I expected, it was more of a contemporary with science elements, than a dystopian.
I felt the writing was simplistic, but it flowed well, and was a very fast read.
After the first hundred pages I felt much more connected to Evie and the other characters, and ultimately I thought the plot twist and the ending was very well done. I will be continuing this series.
