The City of Brass was a book I was cautious of when I was requesting it. I was a bit nervous because it is so big. 520 pages, to be exact. I find that sometimes the longer the book the more bored I get throughout. However, this wasn’t the case at all. The City of Brass is an enchanting and alluring story that grips you from the very first page. Every ...more

Oh, how I loved this book! Over the past few weeks, I've been hearing so many great things about it, so I was very excited to receive an ARC in my Illumicrate box:) I decided to pick it up right away and I can only urge you to do the same, because it's so good! From the first page until the very last, this book is filled with the most vivid detailed descriptions, and I loved the characters, their different backgrounds and the politics and intrigue. I have high hopes for the sequel, as thi ...more

Here’s the thing: I rarely give a book 1 star.
Is that a sign of a problematic rating system? Maybe. But there’s usually at least one thing in a book that saves it from descending into 1-star territory – be it a character, or a subplot, or a single piece of dialogue that’s enough for me to say, “huh. It doesn’t work for me, and I’ll never reread it, but at least there’s some aspect to it to warrant being deemed it was okay.”
