What Members Thought
I loved so much about this book. Jean Valjean is one of the most layered and interesting characters I have come across in literature (given that the book is over a thousand pages long it makes sense). But I struggled with the anachronistic sexism heavily present throughout the reading, in particular how women were dismissed and how Cosette's character had little to no agency. But I did love Fantine and the political statement that Hugo is making still rings true to this day. His story tangents w
