Wow! I don't think I've ever been so encouraged by one man's testimony. In an effort to lay out his story, John Bunyan lays out some real and powerful struggles that kept him from realizing God's abundant grace for him. Crippled by his sin, Bunyan spends a great deal of time wondering if he has, in fact, committed the "unpardonable sin" Jesus speaks about. So far, this is my favorite of the WEM autobiographies. I had a hard time getting into the first half that dealt with his struggles with not feeling secure in his salvation. But I liked the book much better once he realized that God would not turn Bunyan away. I thought the second half was really interesting with his arrest, trial, and imprisonment. His stance on not obeying authorities when they infringe on a person's conscience was inspiring. ...more
